Join us for a fascinating incite into the art of royal portraiture with Australian-born artist Ralph Heimans, the only artist chosen to paint an official portrait of The Queen in Her Diamond Jubilee Year.

Arrive at midday for a glass of fizz in the French Dining Room with a welcome and speech by Ralph Heimans, followed by a delicious three-course lunch in the Andre Garrett Restaurant with 2 glasses of wine and coffee.

Ralph Heimans work received widespread international acclaim when it was unveiled at the National Portrait Gallery of Australia in 2012, drawing record numbers of visitors to the gallery. It was then acquired by Westminster Abbey for its permanent collection, where it formed the centre-piece of their 2013 exhibition to mark the 60th anniversary of the Coronation.

In 2014 he was awarded an Order of Australia for services to portraiture.

Heimans’ portrait of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh has just been released to the public and will be exhibited as part of a retrospective of the artist’s works later this year.  Among other Royal portraits, he was awarded the first official Danish commission of Crown Princess Mary, which was unveiled in conjunction with a major exhibition of his paintings at Frederiksborg Castle, the Danish National Portrait Gallery. It was widely celebrated for pushing the boundaries of Royal Portraiture.

Other significant works have included a major portrait of legendary Russian pianist and conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy, and the official portrait of Governor-General Dame Quentin Bryce for Australian Parliament House. His current projects include portraits of HRH Prince Edward and HRH Princess Sophie, the celebrated actor Sir Ben Kingsley, as well as an exhibition of leading authors for the Random House Shakespeare series.

Heimans' works are held in some of the world's most prestigious public institutions including Westminster Abbey, The Royal Collection, The National Portrait Gallery of Australia, Frederiksborg Castle in Denmark, and the European Court in Luxembourg.
